If you haven't already guessed from my Instagram and previous blog posts, I have a very loyal relationship with MAC lipsticks. Yes, that sounds really sad but honestly, if I had the money to buy every single shade available, I most definitely would. The main reasons being, is that I'm yet to find another brand that offers the pigmentation, staying power and a selection of colours/finishes as wide as MAC do - so until that day comes, I'll be raving about them until the cows come home. I must say, I have calmed down a bit lately and I haven't actually bought a lipstick for a good few months (proud moment), but at one point I'd buy 3 new shades every pay day which is probably why I've now built up a strong little army, and as I haven't written a post like this in a while, I thought you might wanna have a little nose at my new and updated collection.
SHY GIRL (CREMESHEEN & CREAMY NEUTRAL CORAL BEIGE): I have to say, the cremesheen lipsticks in my collection aren't nearly as loved as some of the others as I find they grab onto and highlight any dry patches on my lips which isn't ideal when you want to look your best, and the finish just isn't as smooth and long-lasting as I'd like. The colour of Shy Girl is very 'my lips but better' so if you're looking for something natural but glossy at the same time, this may be for you.
HUE (GLAZE & SOFT PALE PINK): Although this is a very popular nude shade in the beauty world, I just don't feel that it suits me as it's way too pale for my liking. So pale that I wouldn't even describe it as pink, just more of a foundation lips, kind of shade. Again, this could be down to my weird yellow toned skin that it just looks silly on me, so I'd definitely recommend giving it a swatch as a lot of people swear by it. If you're after a super sheer nude, this may be suited to you but unfortunately, don't expect it to be long-lasting.
ANGEL (FROST & SOFT PINK): I'd be lying if I said I didn't buy this shade just because I heard it was one of Kim Kardashian's favourites, but that's because I'm sad. You already knew that. A little different to the cremesheen lipsticks, this is still a really smooth and creamy formula, but the colour pay off is better and it lasts longer on the lips. I've started to become a fan of my neutral shades at the moment and this has been one that I've been reaching for as it's a really pretty, rose pink which looks fab with a natural makeup look. Even better when paired with a liner - one of my favourites to combine with this is Soar.
PEACH BLOSSOM (CREMESHEEN & FROSTED COOL NUDE): This is a really soft, coral/peach shade that would look great on those with lighter skin tones. I feel like so far, all I've done is moan about my lipsticks but this isn't one I'd choose to wear often. Maybe it's because it doesn't really compliment my lips or skin tone and I prefer a 'fuller' effect when it comes to lipsticks. If you're looking for a natural, soft peachy toned lipstick with a glossy finish then give this a swatch next time you visit a MAC counter, but if you're after something that'll survive a cup of coffee or a meal, then give this one a miss.
CREME CUP (CREMESHEEN & LIGHT BLUE PINK): Although I feel that you can't go wrong with a natural looking, milky baby pink shade in your collection, I'm not overly keen on the formula or glossy finish with this one which is quite unfortunate as it seems to look amazing on everyone but me. It's one of those lipsticks that would be straight up there as one of my favourites if it had a satin or matte finish, but due to the cremesheen finish, it has to be reapplied several times throughout the day which is too high maintenance for me.
BRAVE (SATIN & PINK BEIGE WITH WHITE PEARL): If it's not already obvious enough by the photograph, this is my most used and favourite shade of all time. I'm currently on my 3rd tube now as it's just the most perfect every day shade for me. I'm yet to find a shade that not only suits me as much as this one does, but also lasts for longer than this does as I would say that it's pretty impossible. Although I would describe it as a more purple toned brown shade than what MAC have said, this is one of the most iconic and popular shades that everyone needs in their collection. If you're looking for something that makes your lips look fuller and more defined, then let this lipstick paired with the Brave liner be your next purchase.
TWIG (SATIN & SOFT MUTED BROWNISH-PINK): The perfect Autumnal shade. Even the name screams it. This is one of my most worn shades, along with Brave, Velvet Teddy and Faux. Whilst being described as a muted brownish-pink, I'd actually say it's the other way round and more of a pink-toned brown. Could be down to the fact that lipsticks look different on everyone but to me, this is just a lovely brown shade and has quite similar maeve tones to Brave. The satin formulas are my favourite as I find them feeling so soft on the lips without being too glossy or matte which can sometimes be quite drying.
FAUX (SATIN & MUTED MAEVE PINK): Faux is a perfect example of a unique shade that offers something a little different to your average nude. I am a huge fan of this colour and although it's relatively new to my collection, I can see it being one that I repurchase over and over again. I find shades like this are just so wearable and completely compliment my skin tone and as it has such an opaque finish, it makes overdrawing your lips a lot more acceptable as you can't see your natural lip underneath. Always a winner for someone with a non-existent top lip.
HONEYLOVE (MATTE & LIGHT BEIGE TONED WITH ROSE): I'm still not sure on what I think about this shade as I feel like I'm experiencing a love/hate relationship with it. It's probably about as light as I'd go with the nudes as although it is quite pale, it still has strong tones of brown running through it which pushes me towards it a bit more. I would describe it as a perfect nude for all skin tones and the brown-beige undertones give it that extra bit of warmth that separates it from being on the 'foundation lip' spectrum. If you're wondering what liner to wear with this, Subculture & Spice are the perfect matches.
PLEASE ME (MATTE & MUTED ROSEY TINTED PINK): A definite favourite of mine, Please Me is such a gorgeous bubblegum/barbie pink shade. A few months ago, I realised that the shades I kept going for were beginning to look very similar which is why I opted for something with a little more personality. I swatched this whilst at a MAC counter in London and instantly fell in love. Although it has a matte finish, I find that it isn't as drying as some of the others and is a lot more comfortable to wear. If you're ever stuck on which liner to wear with it, Hip N Happy is a perfect match.
VELVET TEDDY (MATTE & DEEP TONE BEIGE): Along the same lines as Twig, this is another one of your perfect Autumnal shades but has that all-year-round vibe too. If you haven't heard of Velvet Teddy, then I'd like to know where you've been for the past year as it has been one of the most talked about shades in the beauty world, thanks to a little someone named Kylie Jenner. It actually took me months to get my hands on this, it was sold out online and in stores for ages but I was so happy to finally have it as it definitely doesn't disappoint. Slightly darker than Twig, it has much darker brown tones to it so may be a little too dark on paler skin tones, but is extremely long lasting due to the matte formula. This will most definitely survive a few cups of coffee, so there's no need to worry about reapplying throughout the day.
THE STATEMENT SHADES
GIRL ABOUT TOWN (AMPLIFIED & BRIGHT BLUE FUCHSIA): The pigmentation and colour pay off with this shade is amazing - although it's one that I only feel suits me when I have a tan, otherwise it washes me out. I would describe it as being on the verge of a berry shade but not quite there as there's too much pink involved. I don't know what it is but the bright, more statement colours never suit me which is rather annoying. I gave this a try whilst on holiday a few months ago and found it really long-lasting, even with a really thin layer on the lips.
UP THE AMP (AMPLIFIED & LAVENDER VIOLET): Never in a million years would I ever think I'd see myself buying, lettalone wearing a purple lipstick, but this is honestly such a lovely shade. Maybe it's because it's not as purple as the likes of Heroine for example (it's a lot more of a bright pink-toned purple) and makes my teeth look really white which is always a bonus. I wore this on Halloween to go with my mermaid outfit and it was literally the perfect shade.
LADY DANGER (MATTE & VIVID BRIGHT CORAL-RED): This is my least favourite shade from my collection as no matter how many times I try, I just can't pull it off. As much as I love the colour and how beautiful it looks on other people, it completely washes me out and I feel like it makes my teeth look yellow rather than white. It's a handy shade to have in my collection for fancy dress, etc. but it's definitely the most neglected of them all.
What are your favourite MAC lipstick shades? Are there any that you would suggest for me to try?
