If you're anything like me and find yourself wondering on many occasions why you weren't blessed with a top lip, then these pencils will be your best friend. I don't know why it took me so long to start buying these because they've literally changed everything. A good lip pencil will do SO many things for you... It'll help hold your lipstick in place and give it more of a neater and defined edge, it'll make your lips look even more flawless, it'll add an even more exciting and vibrant colour to the outline of your lipstick and most importantly, it'll give your lips that fuller and bigger effect. I always make sure I choose carefully and ask for as much advice as possible when picking a lip pencil as I like to go for colours that compliment the shades of lipsticks that I already own as well as suiting my natural lip colour. Although I don't own a big collection and I definitely don't have half as many lip pencils as I do lipsticks, I find that the ones that I do have are absolutely perfect and they are used constantly as I went for shades that suited each colour range of my lipsticks.
For my pink shades such as Please Me, Creme Cup and Angel, I went for the shade Hip N Happy. This is a gorgeous baby pink with slight lilac undertones (describe as a 'dirty blue pink' on the Mac website). Please Me and Hip N Happy are the perfect partners and my go to every day lip combo. For my brown and nude shades, I picked up Subculture (described as an underground pink) which pairs perfectly with Twig and Velvet Teddy. Personally, I don't use this as much as the others as I would say it's much browner than make describes and I don't feel that these shades suit me much but if you're looking for one to partner up with the Autumnal shades, this is perfect.
Soar is my all time favourite which I picked up for my darker nude/purple shades. The Mac website describes it as a mid-tone pinkish brown but I would describe it as a gorgeous rose pink shade with slight violet undertones. This goes beautifully with my Brave lipstick which is my holy grail, every day lipstick (I've already gone through 2 of these) and I just love the fact that I can pop this on to make my lips look so much fuller and Kylie Jenner like. Last but not least, I went for Half Red which I actually picked up as an alternative to Soar when it was completely sold out for a few months and I would say it was a great choice as it is very similar. I would say the only difference is that it's a tiny bit darker and more of a burgundy browny red, but if you're looking for something similar to Soar then I'd definitely go for this.
I can't explain how much I love these pencils - they are so soft, long lasting and easy to apply and can be worn subtly as well as creating a vibrant look. They work well with just about any lipstick whether it being Mac themselves or the cheaper high street brands and they can even be worn on their own all over the lips with a bit of lipgloss. I've got to the point now where I am becoming a bit obsessed and I want every single shade in my collection but I think the next shade on the list will be one to compliment my brighter reds/pinks.
What are your favourite shades? What would you recommend for the brighter reds/pinks?
