A bit late on the bandwagon, but I recently discovered the AM & PM Routine tag created by Celina from the Celution. I'm not usually one to take part in tags but this one in particular took my fancy as it was different to ones I've read before. I always find it intriguing reading blogs on what others get up to on a day-to-day basis as I'm a bit of a nosey parker, so I thought it would be fun to share my personal AM & PM schedule with you.
1. WHAT IS YOUR MORNING BEAUTY ROUTINE?
I'm not going to lie, I'm one of those people that'll hit the snooze button 5 times and roll out of bed 30 minutes before needing to leave for work, so when it comes to my morning routine, I tend to keep it as simple as possible. After spending a good few minutes moaning that I'm too tired to face life today, I'll head to the bathroom, clean my teeth and splash my face with cold water in attempt to wake myself up. In terms of skincare, I'll keep things quite minimal to save time (I'd much rather spend those extra 10 minutes in bed). My routine usually consists of cleansing my face (I'm using the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing gel at the moment), followed by moisturising with the Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting moisturiser or the Clarins Multi-Active day cream. I'll then add a few sprays of Jurlique's Rosewater Balancing Mist to give my skin the hydration that it needs before applying my makeup. Next, I'll apply some deodorant, get dressed and [not] brush my hair before doing my makeup. During the week, I'll wash my hair the night before and let it dry naturally, so depending on whether it's on my side that morning [which is usually a miracle], I'll throw it up in a bun in hope that I'll look relatively decent for the day ahead. I'll then give myself a spritz with whichever perfume takes my fancy that morning, put on my coat and set off for the drive to work.
2. WHAT'S FOR BREAKFAST?
I've never been much of a breakfast person as I don't tend to fancy much as soon as I wake up, so it usually depends on how I'm feeling that morning. I'll go through phases of either eating the same thing every day until I'm sick to death of it, or skipping breakfast completely - there's no in between. At the moment, my breakfast of choice is between a smoothie (strawberries, blueberries, banana with almond milk and a sprinkle of flax seed powder) or a couple of Belvita biscuits to dip in my tea. One thing I most definitely wouldn't be able to function without, is my morning cup of tea.
3. COFFEE OR TEA?
Definitely tea. I'm not a massive coffee fan, although I'll occasionally treat myself to a gingerbread latté or two. A cuppa tea with 1 sugar and almond milk is my jam. We all prefer the taste of almond milk in my house which I suppose is a good thing as it's a much healthier option.
4. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU TO GET OUT THE DOOR?
On a good day when I'm not procrastinating and scrolling through Instagram whilst getting ready (multi-tasking is a wonderful thing), I'll be out the door within 40 minutes. Rushing around usually means having to sacrifice my morning tea, and I couldn't torture myself like that.
5. WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO MAKEUP LOOK ON A FUSS-FREE MORNING?
As much as I love to rock the bed head look for work, I couldn't possibly neglect my face as well. I try and keep things as minimal as I can without looking like a zombie, but it usually takes me around 15 minutes to do my every day makeup. After moisturising my face, the first step in my routine is to add a small amount of Mac's strobe cream before applying my favourite Bourjous Healthy Mix foundation. I'll then conceal under my eyes using the Bourjous Radiance Reveal concealer and set using the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light. My favourite cheek products to use in the mornings are between Nars Orgasm or 'Mood Exposure' from my Hourglass Ambient Lighting palette. I'll then highlight my cheek bones using one of the more subtle options from my collection such as Mac's Soft & Gentle, before moving on to my brows. My most used brow products are from Benefit - the Goof Proof eyebrow pencil is used to create my desired shape and the Brow Zings powder to fill in any patches making my brows appear fuller. Moving onto the eyes, I almost always apply my Maybelline Master Precise liquid eyeliner on top of my lids as my eyes generally look like peas without it, and if I'm doing well for time, I might apply some eyeshadow too. After that, I'll curl my lashes and add some of Maybelline's Lash Sensational mascara before finishing with my lipstick of choice which tends to either be one from my Mac collection, or a matte NYX lingerie shade.
6. SNACK TIME! WHAT'S IN THE BOWL?
I tend to eat quite large dinner portions which usually means I'll be full until bedtime, but I'm a sucker for a glass of wine. Give me a glass of Merlot over a bar of chocolate and a packet of crisps any day - there's no better way to relax. Of course, not every night.
7. WHAT IS YOUR EVENING BEAUTY ROUTINE?
Before having a hot bubble bath, the first step in my evening routine is to remove my makeup using Liz Earle's Hot Cloth Cleanser. I'm sure all females would agree that taking your face off after a long day is one of the best feelings known to existence. Once most of my makeup is removed and my face feels relatively clean, I'll hop into the bath, wash my hair & body and shave if I need to. I always have a bath in the evening as I like to feel clean and relaxed before bed. I don't spend too long in the bath, so after about 15 minutes or so, I'll get out and clean my teeth as well as removing any excess makeup residue with a cotton pad soaked in Micellar water. I'll then proceed to my next skincare step and moisturise my face using Clarin's Multi-Active Night Cream, before applying Laura Mercier's Body Soufflé to my arms & legs (the Ambre Vanille scent is incredible!). At this point, I usually want to jump straight into bed, but if I'm not feeling too lazy, I'll add a few extra steps into my routine. This could either mean painting my nails, applying an overnight mask (Sephora's sleeping masks are my favourite for rehydrating the skin), or using my crest teeth whitening strips if I really want to treat myself. My evening routine varies depending on how long my day has been and how tired I'm feeling.
8. HOW DO YOU WIND DOWN AND PREP FOR BED?
Once I've had a bath and done my skincare routine, I'll usually light a few candles, get into my pyjamas and hop into bed with my laptop. Again, depending on how productive I'm feeling, I'll either prepare a blog post or catch up on YouTube videos for an hour or so. On the rare occasion, I'll read a book or watch a film with Tom, but most of the time the TV has been taken over by football. At around 11, I'll switch off completely and go to sleep.
9. COZY UP! WHAT ARE YOU WEARING TO SLEEP?
Depending on whether my mum has wacked the heating up to 30 degrees which seems to be a regular occurrence at the moment (I'm sure she's convinced herself that we live in an igloo), I'll go to bed in one of my silk Missguided short and shirt sets which are the cosiest things ever. On those warmer evenings, I'll usually just wear my underwear as I'm not one to sleep in the nude. That whole 'freedom' thing makes me cringe.
10. WHAT ARE SOME THINGS YOU MUST DO BEFORE HITTING THE HAY?
Before getting into bed, I'll grab a bottle of water from downstairs as I like to have a drink on my bedside table during the night. Not my best idea as it does result in a good few toilet trips before I finally get to sleep, but if I'm busy at work during the day, I won't drink as much water as I should. I'll then apply some Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream to my lips and any problem areas on my face, before setting my alarm and putting my phone on charge. Does anyone else check their alarm multiple times before finally being able to relax? I always get a sudden rush of anxiety that I've set it wrong and I won't wake up for work! After finally convincing myself that I've definitely set it to AM and not PM, I'll turn off my bedside lamp and go to sleep.
