Winter is my favourite season of the year, although my skin doesn't seem to agree as it's been suffering more than ever in these colder temperatures. I've noticed I'm becoming a lot more sensitive to weather conditions, the foods that I'm eating and sleeping patterns as I'm starting to get older [at the ripe old age of 24], which is why I always look forward to sorting and transitioning my skincare at this time of the year. Here are a few of my current staples and the products that I feel are beneficial to my dull, dehydrated skin at the moment.
KEIHLS MIDNIGHT RECOVERY OIL: Night oils and serums have never been a vital part of my routine but during the winter months, my skin definitely needs that extra boost of moisture that I feel the more intense products can offer me. I've tried a few different overnight oils but this one has to be my favourite. It doesn't leave your skin feeling too dry, nor does it add that awful layer of grease to your face when you wake up in the morning. It contains natural ingredients including primrose oil and lavender which I find relax me before bed too.
The Jo Malone bath oils have been a staple in my winter evening routine due to the way it leaves my skin feeling. Just like a bubble bath, you add a small amount to running water and the natural conditioners such as almond, jojoba seeds and avocado oils are designed to nourish and hydrate the skin [leaving it smelling amazing too]. Blackberry and Bay is one of my favourite JM scents, so you can imagine how much I love bathing in this.
CLARINS MULTI-ACTIVE DAY CREAM: Other than removing my makeup, moisturising is the most important step in my routine as I feel it makes the biggest difference to my skin's condition. During the summer months, I swore by the Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream, [especially whilst I was in Thailand], as the lightweight texture and refreshing plant extracts kept my skin feeling protected and well-balanced throughout the harsher temperatures. However, when the winter approaches, I lean more towards the heavy-duty products as my skin struggles a lot more. Getting to know your own skin and finding the products that benefit you personally is a trial and error process. Fortunately, the Clarin's Multi-Active day and night duo is one of the best I've tried and works wonders for me. The day cream in particular is great for soothing, hydrating and bringing moisture to the skin whilst helping maintain a younger looking complexion due to the Myrothamnus extracts.
ANTIPODES HONEY & MANUKA MASK: Cleansing masks have been a holy grail in my routine during the colder months as my skin has relied on them a lot when in need of that extra little pick-me-up. There are two masks in my life at the moment - the Kiehl’s Cilantro and Orange Extract and the Antipodes Honey and Manuka mask [which is my favourite of the two]. I tend to use this around once a week, sometimes more if I feel my skin is extra dehydrated or about to go through a breakout. Unlike some of the masks I've used in the past, this one doesn't leave my skin feeling tight once removed and has a perfect balance of deep cleansing and hydrating at the same time. It does a great job at drawing moisture to the top layer of the skin whilst providing anti-oxidising benefits too. My skin just tends to feel that little bit smoother and cleaner after using this when I'm going through a bad stage.
JURLIQUE ROSEWATER BALANCING MIST: Although I don't tend to reach for my these every day, hydrating mists are still a key product in my skincare stash. Great for all year round, this one from Jurlique is one of my favourites. The rose and marshmallow extracts are designed to tone and soothe tired skin, whilst leaving a refreshed and revitalised finish to the complexion. This product is great as it can even be used on top of makeup without causing any budging. I feel as though I rely on this quite a lot at the moment, especially when I'm feeling hungover as my skin suffers from dehydration the most after a heavy night of drinking.
