If you've read previous posts of mine, you'll know that I have a slight addiction to makeup palettes in the form of chocolate bars or one that replicates any item of food for that matter. I'm an absolute sucker for a good palette that has a whole set of specific themed shades laid out neatly together, especially when its puddings - which is why this palette is the one for me. It could be down to my major love of food, but it could also be that there is no better combination than makeup combined with chocolate...
The Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar is a must have for those sweet-toothed beauty lovers looking for that perfect warm toned eyeshadow palette which can be used all year round. Inspired by the original Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette, the Semi-Sweet palette is a slightly more intense, luxurious and creamy version with shades that seem a little more versatile. Although I don't actually own the original *yet*, it took me a few hours to decide which one to go for and it was a very close competition - at one point I had both in my shopping bag but couldn't do it to myself (or my bank account for that matter), so I decided to go for the Semi-Sweet as the shades just seemed so much more suited to me and the looks I tend to go for on a daily basis.
The palette includes 16 richly pigmented matte and shimmer shades which are infused with the scent of sweet chocolate due to the added cocoa powder ingredient. Yep, that's right - the shadows even smell good enough to eat. Too Faced have literally thought of everything to make this the best chocolatey experience a girl could ask for! With its warm caramels, deep mochas, bronzy chocolate and the contrasting sugared blueberry hues, this is every neutral lovers dream. There are so many different looks that can be achieved by blending and mixing shades together as well as each shade looking just as gorgeous when applied on its own for an effortless finish.
Aside from its amazing packaging and its beautifully sweet scent, each shade even has its own pudding themed name which is always a winner for me. (Licorice, Nougat, Truffled, Hot Fudge, Cocoa Chili, Pink Sugar, Puddin', Blueberry Swirl, Peanut Butter, Frosting, Rum Raisin, Mousse, Caramel, Bon Bon and our bigger sized highlighting shades; Coconut Créme and Butter Pecan). I've got to be honest though, I don't think I'll use Blueberry Swirl and Pink Sugar much as not only are they not shades that I would ever really go for, but both have a really strange consistency and aren't nearly as pigmented as the others.
In terms of quality, each shadow is extremely long lasting and the colour pay off is exceptional too. I've found with previous palettes (from other brands) that the shades look completely different in the pan compared to when they're actually on the eyelids, but I can assure you that with this palette that isn't the case at all. The formula of each shadow is brilliant too - they blend out really well and have a lovely creamy texture which can be buildable for a heavier look if needs be but look beautiful when used alone for a soft, natural look.
Overall, I absolutely adore this palette and would like to give Too Faced a pat on the back for creating such a thing of beauty. The selection of shades is perfect for me - if I was packing for a holiday and could only take one eyeshadow palette with me, this would be the one I'd reach for straight away... But let's be realistic here.
Have you tried either of these palettes before? Which one did you prefer?
