When Topshop announced their beauty range, I was more than excited to see what they had to offer. As much as I love and always will love Topshop for their quality of clothes, I must admit that my expectations were quite low when it came to the makeup side of things and I didn't think the transition would be AS impressive as it was due to personal experience from big clothing brands. To start with, the range was quite small which was holding me back a little as there wasn't much catching my eye, but as the months went by, I noticed that it began to grow rapidly and Topshop were becoming more and more popular for their beauty range (especially with bloggers). So, when making an online order for some new clothes one day, I decided to throw a couple of makeup bits in my shopping bag too just to give them a try.. Which was the start of my ever-growing obsession.
I've now had a taste of most of Topshop's beauty products; from blushers and highlighters to nail varnishes and eyeshadows, but their lipsticks are by far my favourite. The range of colours isn't as big as I would like and they don't have quite as many shades to choose from like MAC but they definitely do a good job at picking out some of the most beautiful shades for a lipstick lover like me. As much as I love other brands such as MAC, I see it more of a treat to myself for those months that I can afford to spend that little bit extra on beauty products, so when looking for a cheaper alternative, a Topshop lipstick is perfect for that and the quality of the product for the price is honestly amazing (£8 each).
I do find some makeup brands can be misleading as sometimes the colour that you see on the tube isn't quite what it looks like on the lips, but with Topshop what you see is what you get. Each shade is extremely pigmented with a long-lasting wear time and a smooth, moisturising texture. They even have their own little names which is definitely something I look for in a lipstick. As strange as it sounds, I feel lipsticks that are just numbered lack personality and having a name makes me remember the ones that I like the most for me to purchase again. For me, Topshop lipsticks tick every box as they are amazing quality, long lasting, with a sweet scent that isn't overpowering on the lips and the black and white packaging is designed to look sleek and classy. My only negative is that because the packaging is white, the metal becomes dirty very quickly when its been in my makeup bag for a few days, but other than that - i'm in love.
SAINT: a milky-pink nude shade perfect for everyday use. This goes really well with a smokey-eyed look on a night out and has much more of a glossy effect than a matte finish.
WHIMSICAL: Although this is labelled as a 'pink toned' shade, I would say this is more of a peachy/apricot pale coral. This is also perfect for everyday use as it is much more of a natural shade. I have to admit, this isn't one of my favourites as it comes out a little patchy and tends to stick to the dry parts of my lips so I usually add some lip gloss on top to even it out.
OOH LA LA: a pastel orange with a pink undertone. This shade is perfect for the summer as it is vibrant, highly pigmented and looks good with a tan. Ooh La La comes under the category of a 'velvet finish' but I would class it more as a cream finish.
MACAROON: a slightly warm toned barbie pink. This shade is very bright (not as neon as it looks in the picture) so perfect for the spring/summer. I would say that the pinky shade works with all skin tones and gives your lips that extra boost of colour.
PILLOW TALK: a light dusky pink with a velvet finish. This is definitely one of my favourite shades at the moment and I've been wearing it pretty much every day. It feels nice and smooth when applied and doesn't stick to the dry parts of the lips like I've found some do.
INNOCENT: a dusky medium pink with a matte finish. I would say it's more of a bubble-gum pink but has a creamy and slightly glossy formula which gives it more of a natural look. This is another one of my personal favourites.
INFRARED: a bright orange with a slight red tone. After hearing Zoella describe this as one of her go-to colours, I thought I'd give it a try. I've never really suited orange or red lipsticks and find that they make me look 'washed out' but this is actually a perfect shade to give your face a bright and summery look and also goes beautifully with a tan. (summer essential).
DITSY: a bright red with a slight pink undertone. This is definitely one to go for if you're into the bold and vibrant red shades. I don't wear this colour as often as I'd like as I really don't suit red lipsticks which is sad as this is such a beautiful and unique shade.
DAMNED: a deep purple with a red tone and a creamy finish. This is one of the most recent shades from the Topshop collection and I love it. At first, I was a little scared to try this out as it looks so much darker on the website, but it's actually a really pretty berry red colour which definitely goes well with most evening looks.
Are you a lover of Topshop lipsticks too? Which shades would you recommend?
